PALO ALTO, Calif. - Mariia Kozyreva advanced all the way to the semifinals in a field of 128 players at the ITA Division-I Northwest Regionals before a loss on the final day, concluding the Gaels fall season.
The No. 3 seed lost to the eventual champion in No. 2 seed Connie Ma of Stanford 6-4, 6-4. The Saint-Petersburg, Russia native won six straight matches during the regionals and only once did she need a third set in her run to the semifinals.
The tournament also saw
Jordan Harris and
Julia Ronney advance to the semifinals of the doubles bracket by defeating Allison Mulville and Sophie Luescher of Oregon 8-2 in the quarterfinals. Their tournament ended in the semis in an 8-6 loss to Niluka Madurawe and Alexandra Yepifanova of Stanford, capping a great run by the Gaels doubles tandem.
UP NEXT
The Gaels will resume action in the new year at the Cal Winter Invite from January 14-16 in Berkeley, Calif. It will be the last open tournament before beginning head-to-head team play on January 22 in Santa Barbara to take on the Gauchos.
