MORAGA, Calif. – Saint Mary's College Vice President for Intercollegiate Athletics
Mike Matoso announced today the promotion of
Josh Sims to Senior Associate Athletic Director for Sports Medicine.
Â
In addition to overseeing the Gaels' sports medicine department, Sims will now have oversight of the sports performance department, linking both areas under one supervisor.
Â
Under Sims, the sports performance department will now be led by
Cody Butcher, who was hired to be the new Assistant AD for Sports Performance.
Â
The combination of both the sports medicine department and sports performance department under Sims will help benefit the overall support and well-being of all Saint Mary's student-athletes.
Â
"We've been looking at restructuring this area for some time now, and Josh is the perfect fit to oversee the move," Matoso said. "His leadership these past several years has been outstanding and this will help increase our overall support of all of our student-athletes."
Â
Over the past two years, Sims has led the department and the college as the head advisor through a world-wide pandemic. Sims will continue to work with men's basketball on a daily basis.
Â
Butcher was promoted to Assistant AD for Sports Performance after spending the previous three years as an assistant sports performance coach with the Gaels.
Â
"Cody was an excellent candidate to move into this leadership role," Matoso said. "He has done a terrific job for the past several years developing our student-athletes in the sports performance building and we look forward to continued success under his guidance."
Â
Prior to Saint Mary's, Butcher spent time at Dominican University, the Colorado Rockies minor league organization and Stanford. Butcher attended California Lutheran University and earned a Bachelor's of Science in Exercise Science in 2014. He also got his Master's from University of California Pennsylvania in 2017.Â
Â
Sims attended Oregon State and earned a Bachelor of Science in Exercise and Sport Science, Athletic Training. He attended the University of Oklahoma for graduate school where he earned a Masters of Education with an emphasis in Intercollegiate Athletic Administration and a Master of Human Relations.Â
