WSOC | Jensen Tallies Goal in Double OT Loss to Hornets

SACRAMENTO, Calif. — Saint Mary's dominated in most aspects of Thursday's game against Sacramento State but fell in double overtime to the Hornets, 2-1. The contest marked head coach Theresa Romagnolo's first game action as head skipper of the Gaels.

SMC outshot Sac State 17-8 in the contest. AnnaMaria DiGeronimo led all players in the contest with six attempts while Emily Jensen added four more. The Gaels held an even larger shot margin in regulation, 15-4, and also dominated in corner kicks, 8-1.

The Hornets scored the game's first goal in the 33rd minute off a corner kick. Christina Lazar had the score with Ariana Nino earning the assist.

Saint Mary's stormed back however with the equalizer in the 73rd minute of action. SMC drew a foul in the Hornets zone and Malia Allison delivered a perfect strike off the free kick that Jensen tracked down and headed past the Sac State keeper. It was the first career goal for Jensen in her first career start.

The Hornets got the last laugh however as they found the back off the net following a cross into the box off a set piece. Nino was credited with the game-winning goal.

Freshman Taylor Poland made the start in goal for Saint Mary's and recorded four saves in her first collegiate contest.
