2/14/2021 5:19:00 PM | Women's Soccer
MORAGA, Calif. — Saint Mary's battled into the second overtime period for the second straight game on Sunday but settled for a draw with San Francisco after the session expired with a 1-1 score.
The Gaels scored their lone goal of the game in the 29th minute as Carly Hittenmiller got in the path of a clear by the USF goalkeeper and her body redirected the shot back into the net. It was the first career goal for the junior and tied up the game at 1-all.
The Dons drew first blood in the contest by scoring off a corner kick in the 17th minute. Jamesen Ward got a head on the cross by Marissa Vasquez to get USF on the board first. It was one of only two shots by Ward in the contest but proved to be a big one for the Dons.
The Gaels appeared to have taken the lead in the 71st minute as Paris Fox collected a pass from Isabella Santavicca and rocketed it up high and into the nylon but the play was ruled offsides by the assistant referee.
In total, USF outshot Saint Mary's 23-14 in the match with six shots coming in overtime. Despite the margin, the Gaels had high quality opportunities with nine shots on goal compared to 10 for the Dons.
Taylor Mendoza led SMC with four shots attempted while AnnaMaria DiGeronimo took three. Taylor Poland played the entire match in goal for the Gaels and made eight saves.
