WSOC | Saint Mary's Draws With Pacific in WCC Opener

STOCKTON, Calif. — For the third time in as many games this year, the Gaels battled into two overtime periods and ultimately walked away from the pitch with a 0-0 draw in their conference play opener against Pacific.

Freshman goalkeeper Taylor Poland was the star of the afternoon for SMC (0-1-2) as she posted six saves for her first career clean sheet. Poland made a number of high quality saves in the second half to allow the Gaels to reach the overtime session.

Saint Mary's was credited with six shots in the match compared to 12 for the Tigers. Despite the large swing in shot attempts, the Gaels had plenty of scoring opportunities and took nine corner kicks in the contest. The six shots for SMC were recorded by six different players.

The Gaels' defense allowed Pacific only three corners and caught the Tigers offsides four times. Erin Brown led Pacific with four shot attempts.

Malia Allison, Maya Alcantara, Laura Trapero Sanz, and Emma Barthel all played the full 110 minutes in the game.
