Returning to the Bay Area after a four-game series at California Baptist, Saint Mary's Baseball opens up a four-game series with Cal. The first two games of the series, including the night game on Thursday, will be played in Berkeley. Carlos Lomeli figures to get the ball in game one of the series, coming off of his best performance as a Gael, going 6.2 innings of scoreless baseball against the Lancers on Friday, striking out 11 and walking just one.
FRIDAY

Saint Mary's returns to the court for the first since Feb. 20 in the team's West Coast Conference opener versus San Diego. Women's Basketball vs. Pacific, 2:00 pm (Las Vegas - WCC Tournament)
Live Stream | Live Audio | Stats
It's time for the WCC Tournament in Las Vegas, and the Gaels enter the field as the seventh-seed, taking on the Pacific Tigers in the second round. Last year inside The Orleans Arena, the Gaels took down LMU in the first round before falling to Pepperdine the next day. This time, the Gaels face the same team they closed out the regular season against, as they lost by 19 to the Tigers on Saturday. When the two teams met in Moraga, the Gaels lost a tight one in overtime. The only other team these two teams met in tournament play was 2018, when Pacific bested Saint Mary's 77-73. If the Gaels win, they would play again on Saturday.
Baseball at Cal, 3:05 pm (Berkeley, Calif.)
Stats
The four-game series between the Gaels and Golden Bears continues on Friday afternoon with game two, which figures to see Sam Bower get the nod for Saint Mary's. This series shapes up differently than previous four-game series, as it will feature four games over four games, versus three days with a doubleheader on Saturday. Bower was stellar in his last start, going 7.1 innings of three-hit baseball. He has yet to walk a hitter in his first 13.1 innings in a Gael's uniform.
SATURDAY
Beach Volleyball vs. UC Davis, 2:00 pm, at #19 Stanford, 4:00 pm (Palo Alto Calif.)
Live Stream vs. Stanford
Saint Mary's returns to the beach courts this weekend with no indoor matches on the WCC schedule, taking on a pair of local products in #19 Stanford and UC Davis. The first match against the Cardinal is the one Gaels fans are eager for, as Saint Mary's will take on their first ranked opponent of the year. Stanford began the year ranked #19 in the preseason AVCA poll, which will be updated before Saturday's match. It is actively one of two duals against Stanford on the schedule, the other set for April 1.
Women's Tennis vs. UC Davis, 12:00 pm (Moraga, Calif.)
The Gaels will play their first match in over three weeks on Saturday as they host the Aggies. SMC is 1-2 this year with both losses coming against ranked programs. In the team's last match, the Gaels breezed past Sac State with a 7-0 decision. UC Davis is 2-2 this year and also posted a 7-0 win over Sac State as well as a close 4-3 decision against Pacific.
Softball at Cal Poly, 1:00 and 3:00 pm (San Luis Obispo, Calif.)
Live Stream | Stats
Fresh off a win over San Jose State, Saint Mary's will head down the coast to face Cal Poly in San Luis Obispo. The Mustangs are 1-2 this season and posted a win over Boise State on Friday. Cal Poly has had seven of their games canceled due to COVID-19 related complications this year. Last week, Hannah Chew was one of the Gaels' top offensive performers as she went 7-for-15 across the team's five games and drove in five runs. On Sunday versus San Jose State, Chew had a double and home run in the first game of the doubleheader.
Women's Soccer at Santa Clara, 1:00 pm (Santa Clara, Calif.)
Live Stream | Stats
Saint Mary's will look to pick up their first win of the season after nearly getting past Pepperdine last week at home. The Gaels are 0-2-2 this season with both losses coming by a single goal. SMC is averaging over 11 shots per game and has dominated their opponents in terms of corner kicks, 25-15. Santa Clara was projected to finish second in the WCC this year and are 1-0 after defeating Portland last week.
Baseball vs. Cal, 2:00 pm (Moraga, Calif.)
Live Stream | Stats
Shifting to Louis Guisto Field on the campus of Saint Mary's, the Gaels and Golden Bears play game three of the series on Saturday afternoon. In this series, Cal will get a first-hand look at how deep the Saint Mary's pitching staff is, with Ky Bush slated to pitch the third game. Bush has allowed just two runs across his first two starts, with eight strikeouts coming in his most recent start against California Baptist.
Men's Basketball vs. Loyola Marymount/TBD, 6:00 pm (Las Vegas - WCC Tournament)
Watch (ESPNU) | Stats
The Gaels will be the No. 4 seed at this year's West Coast Conference Tournament and face the winner of Loyola Marymount and San Francisco/San Diego. SMC has reached the championship game of the tournament in each of the past two seasons and won the championship back in 2019. Saturday's game will be broadcasted live on ESPNU. If the Gaels were to win, they would face Gonzaga on Monday night.
SUNDAY
Beach Volleyball vs. San Jose State, 11:00 am (Moraga, Calif.)
The Gaels will be back at home on their sand courts Sunday morning as they welcome in San Jose State for a non-conference dual. The two teams have not played each other since 2019, but the Gaels have never lost to the Spartans in nine duals, dating back to the second season of Gaels beach volleyball in 2014. This could be the last beach dual for a while for SMC, as indoor volleyball will resume on weekends for the final three weekends of March.
Softball at Cal Poly, 12:00 pm (San Luis Obispo, Calif.)
Live Stream | Stats
Saint Mary's concludes their weekend series with the Mustangs at noon on Sunday. The Gaels are 6-6 this year through their first 12 games of the season compared to 3-9 in 2020. SMC played Cal Poly twice last year in Fresno and split the two-game set. Lately, Saint Mary's has been swinging the bat well and averaged five runs per game in their last series against San Jose State.
Baseball vs. Cal, 1:00 pm (Moraga, Calif.)
Live Stream | Stats
For the second time in three Sundays, there will be home baseball at Louis Guisto Field as Saint Mary's and Cal wrap up their four-game series with a 1:00 pm first pitch. If the previous series against California Baptist was any indication, the Gaels might be getting a power surge from Justin Banks on offense, as the fifth-year designated hitter hit three home runs against the Lancers last weekend, with one coming each game. If Saint Mary's gets that kind of offensive production against Cal, the Golden Bears could be in trouble.
Men's Soccer at San Diego, 1:00 pm (San Diego, Calif.)
Live Stream | Stats
After taking a pause last weekend, Saint Mary's returns to the field for a road contest with the Toreros. The Gaels are 2-0 this season and had two players earn WCC Offensive (Andrew Rotter) and Defensive (Louis Sterobo) Players of the Week two weeks ago. Saint Mary's also received some national recognition this week - landing at No. 16 in Top Drawer Soccer's poll and No. 27 according to College Soccer News. USD is 1-1 this season and are coming off a 2-1 win against Pacific.
