WTEN | Gaels Celebrate Senior Day with 6-1 Win

MORAGA, Calif. — Saint Mary's Senior Day went swimmingly as the Gaels took down Pacific by a score of 6-1 on Saturday. SMC improved to 3-3 in league play with the victory and 5-7 overall.
Prior to the 11 a.m. match, Saint Mary's honored it's two seniors Danielle McIntyre and Aubane Ville who played their final collegiate competition at Korth Tennis Complex. McIntyre joined the team in 2016 while Ville came to Moraga in 2017.
Saint Mary's grabbed the doubles point to start the match with wins on Courts 1 and 3. Jordan Harris and Lene Mari Hovda breezed past Pacific's No. 3 tandem with a 6-0 set and then Mariia Kozyreva and McIntyre sealed the point with a close 7-5 decision as SMC's top tandem.
Pacific tied the match score with a win from their No. 4 player to begin singles play but it was all Gaels from that point forward. McIntyre dominated her opponent Danielle Zamora with a 6-0, 6-1 win and Hovda followed suit with a 6-3, 6-1 win on Court 3. Saint Mary's top singles player Kozyreva, currently ranked No. 113 in the nation, earned the fourth and clinching point with another straight set win in 6-4, 7-6(2) fashion.
Jordan Harris and Jocelyn Massey were also victorious in three sets in their respective matches.
Saint Mary's will now finish off the regular season with two road matches up north. The Gaels take on Gonzaga next Friday before facing Portland on Saturday. Links for the matches can be found on the team's schedule page.
