Stanziano Named Bay-Alarm Student Athlete of the Week

MORAGA, Calif. — The records keep falling for Rayna Stanziano, and she continues to get recognized for her outstanding efforts on the track. Just annouced, Stanziano has been named the Bay Alarm Student-Athlete of the Week for the second time this spring, and the first time this spring during the track season (her first win came during the cross country season).

Any conversation about winners should revolve around Rayna Stanziano, who continued her dominance in 2021 by winning her heat in the 800 meter race at the Fresno State Invite on Saturday. Not only did she win the entire race, but she set another school record, besting her own mark with a time of 2:08.18. She had previously set the school record one week ago at the Bryan Clay Invite, part of a record-setting week where she beat two schools records (800m and 1500m). The win for Stanziano is her third overall race win of the 2021 track season, and her fourth if you include her win at the Jessup Invite during cross country season.

This marks the second time this season Stanziano has been named the Bay Alarm Student-Athlete of the week, after she won it for her performance and win at the Jessup Invite in February. This is the third time in her still-young career that she has taken home the weekly honors from SMC.

The Gaels are not in action next weekend as they prepare for the WCC Distance Carnival, to be held in Livermore, on Saturday, May 8. Saint Mary's has just two weekends of track left, with a pair of Last Chance meets scheduled for the weekend of May 15.
