MORAGA, Calif. — The Gaels got off to a great start in their match against No. 5 Pepperdine on Friday by taking the doubles point but couldn't keep the momentum rolling in singles play and ultimately fell, 6-1.

The Gaels (4-7, 2-3 WCC) earned the doubles point with wins on Courts 1 and 3. Mariia Kozyreva and Danielle McIntyre teamed up as SMC's No. 1 team to dominate their opponents in 6-1 fashion before Jordan Harris and Lene Mari Hovda got the job done on Court 3 with a close 6-4 victory.

The Waves (14-2, 3-0 WCC) fought back however and ended up taking wins in all six singles matches. Harris was impressive in her match against No. 115 Taisiya Pachkaleva as SMC's 2-seed and took Pachkaleva to three sets before falling 6-2 in the final set.

Saint Mary's will now have an eight day break before taking on Pacific next Saturday in Moraga. First serve for the match will be at 11 a.m.
