BASE | Ky Bush Lands Weekly Awards from WCC and Collegiate Baseball

Few arms on the West Coast have been more dominant in 2021 than that of Ky Bush, and he proved it again over the weekend. With arguably his best start of the year behind him, Bush lands a pair of weekly honors: the WCC Pitcher of the Week, presented by University Credit Union, and one of Collegiate Baseball's National Players of the Week, powered by Diamond Sports.
Ky Bush was dominant on Sunday afternoon as Saint Mary's picked up a 1-0 win over LMU to cap off the WCC portion of their season. Bush pitched a career-best 7.1 innings while earning his sixth win of the season, allowing just three hits, three walks, and tying a career-best with 13 strikeouts. The first hit of the game came in the fourth inning on a bunt single, and Bush did not allow a ball put into play until the third inning. No pitcher in the WCC has more strikeouts this year than Bush, who now has seven starts this year with eight or more strikeouts.
Not only did Bush earn WCC Pitcher of the Week honors, his performance was strong enough to land national attention from Collegiate Baseball, naming him one of their National Players of the Week. Bush was one of three pitchers on the weekend to strikeout 13 and land on the list, including power arms like Austin Vernon of North Carolina Central, and potential first-overall draft prospect Jack Leiter of Vanderbilt.
This marks the second time during the 2021 season that a Gael has earned WCC Pitcher of the Week honors, with Carlos Lomeli being honored by the conference after the second week of the season. Bush becomes the first Gael since Joe Vranesh to be named one of Collegiate Baseball's National Players of the Week, when Vranesh did so on May 6, 2019.
Bush will get one last start during the 2021 season, as he pitches in the Gaels season finale against Santa Clara on Sunday afternoon in Santa Clara. That will be the final game of a four-game non-conference series against the Broncos to close out the year. The series begins on Friday at Louis Guisto Field with the final home game for Saint Mary's, with first pitch slated for 3:00 pm.
