MORAGA, Calif. – The performance of SMC's Men's Tennis doubles tandem of
James Watt and
Thibaud Maxant at the ITA Super Regionals has earned them the Bay Alarm Student Athletes of the Week Award.

The Gaels representatives at the 2022-23 Super Regionals reached the semifinals of the men's doubles bracket, after defeating the No. 3 doubles team at the tournament from Stanford in the quarterfinals.

Watt and Maxant defeated John Kim and
Michael Wright of Cal 8-4 in the seven-seed-versus-eight-seed matchup. That set up a showdown with Stanford's No. 3 tandem of Max Basing and Nishesh Basavareddy who they beat 8-6.

The Saint Mary's doubles team of Watt and Maxant battled the No. 1 combo of Quinn Vandecasteele and Joshua Charlton of Oregon to a 6-4, 6-1 loss, and are now 5-2 together so far in their first season as a doubles tandem.

The Gaels will be back in action from November 4-6 at the Pacific Invitational in Stockton, Calif. for their final tournament of the fall season.
