PEBBLE BEACH, Calif. – Saint Mary's Sophomore Mitchell Hoey picked up where he left off at the 2021 Saint Mary's Invitational, finishing 3-under par and tied for fifth of 92 golfers after round one of the 2022 SMC Invite.
The Gaels as a team finished day one in sixth place among the 16 teams at their tournament, just 1-over par overall. The Gaels have the second-best rate of par fours made and have the third-most birdies with 23.
Connor Reis also had a good first round and finished day one even on the par-71, 7,091-yard course. The course increased in length from last season when it was 7,002 yards, but Hoey was still first in birdies with eight and was tied for second at 2-under on part fours.
Hoey, Jonathan Curran, and Ryan Hartanto all finished 1-under on par threes for a tie for third, and Connor Reis was 4-under on par fives, good for a tie for second overall. Zack Missigman was tied for second in total pars made with 14.
