Conner Roberts got his second win of the season in second start of the year going six shutout innings with no walks and nine strikeouts on just one hit for the quality start, though the De La Salle High product did hit three batters. Preston Howey, Casey Candiotti, and Octavio Corona each pitched an inning to close it out for the Gaels.

ABOUT UC DAVIS
The Gaels swept UC Davis to start the season 3-0. Saint Mary's won 4-2 in Davis on Friday/Saturday as the game was suspended in the middle of the ninth and was resumed before the scheduled 1:00 p.m. game that the Gaels won 9-3. They completed the sweep with an 11-1 win on Sunday sparked by an eight-run fifth inning.

Tommy Nicholson became the 11th head coach in the history of the program this season. Nicholson spent the previous four seasons as an assistant at Stanford before taking the reins of an Aggie program that finished 14-43 overall and 8-32 in Big West Conference play a season ago.

Prior to his time in Palo Alto Nicholson spent the 2017 season as an assistant at Sacramento State, where he helped lead the Hornets to the Stanford Regional. He also served as Sacramento State's infield coach in 2011 and 2012. In 2012, the Hornets finished with a .979 fielding percentage.

Nicholson began his coaching career at his alma mater at Texas, working as a volunteer assistant from 2009-10 and then as an assistant coach and recruiting coordinator from 2013-16.

ABOUT UC RIVERSIDE
The Highlanders have played a daunting non-conference schedule so far, taking on the Fresno State Bulldogs, Washington Huskies, and UCLA Bruins for their first three series of the season. They're last game was a 2-1 walk off loss to the Bruins where starting pitcher Tyler Frazier threw 5.2 innings of one-run ball.

Head Coach Justin Johnson had the interim tag removed this year and became the permanent manager of the Highlanders. Johnson became the interim coach after former big leaguer and Highlander star himself, Troy Percival, announced his resignation in 2020.
