FRIDAY FIVE presents five facts about Saint Mary's teams that are in action, with things to look forward to during the upcoming week.
1. TOURNAMENT CHAMPIONS
Saint Mary's Women's Basketball took home a postseason championship last weekend when they won the Women's Basketball Invitational. It marks the first postseason tournament championship for the Gaels, who saw Taycee Wedin take home tournament MVP honors. The accolades don't stop there for Wedin, who broke her own SMC record for most three-pointers made in a season with 106.
2. SIXTH TIME
Despite ending their season in the second round of the NCAA Tournament, Saint Mary's Men's Basketball picked up their sixth-ever win in the NCAA Tournament by beating Indiana in the first round. The 29-point victory over the Hoosiers was the largest margin of victory for the Gaels in an NCAA Tournament win, and the largest margin of defeat for Indiana their NCAA Tournament history.
3. CONFERENCE COMPETITION
Saint Mary's Women's Tennis hosts West Coast Conference play this weekend at Korth Tennis Courts when they take on San Francisco and Santa Clara. The Gaels dropped their only conference match of the year, but they have won five of their last seven matches coming into the weekend. All remaining matches during the regular season for Saint Mary's are in conference play as they look to close out the year strong before the WCC Tournament.
