ROW | Second Varsity Eight Beats Portland on Saturday
4/16/2022 2:40:00 PM | Women's Rowing
VANCOUVER, Wash. — Saint Mary's Rowing took on the University of Portland and Seattle University on Saturday morning, with the Gaels putting two boats in the water. Both SMC boats excelled in the water despite some periodically rough conditions. The Gaels were able to take down one of the Portland boats in the second varsity eight race, with their times reflective of the conditions on the water.
The first varsity eight boat took the water at 9:00 am, and the Gaels were within striking distance of both Portland and Seattle. The Gaels time of 7:34.5 was a slight drop from their previous races at Creighton, but with conditions a bit choppy, that should be expected. The second varsity eight boat was the best performing boat for SMC on Saturday, finishing in second overall and just seven seconds behind Seattle's winning boat. Their time of 7:41.7 was an improvement of 24 seconds from their times at Creighton just two weeks ago.
