ROW | SMC Adds Marjorie Setchko to Coaching Staff

MORAGA, Calif. – After another competitive season and the second-highest WCC Championship finish in head coach Brian Ebke's tenure, the Gaels rowing program has added a new assistant coach to bolster its staff ahead of a new-look WCC rowing season.
Marjorie Setchko joins the Gaels from Santa Clara after spending five years on the Broncos' coaching staff, including four as associate head coach leading the women's rowing program.
Setchko brings in quite an illustrious rowing background to Moraga. Before joining Saint Mary's, Setchko made tremendous strides with the Broncos women's program, including doubling the roster size, and medaling in the Novice 4+ at WIRAs four times. Setchko also coached part-time for the Oakland Athletic Rowing Society from 2020 to 2023.

"She brings a ton of experience, energy, and passion for the sport and I have seen her coaching skills first-hand as a competitor in the WCC and on the recruiting trail over the last four years. We're excited to see how Marjorie can help us continue to elevate our women's rowing program!"
Before coaching in the WCC, Setchko served as the women's assistant coach at George Washington University in 2019, where she coached the Third Varsity Eight (3V8) and Varsity Four (V4). Both crews delivered standout performances at the Atlantic 10 Conference Championships, earning first- and second-place finishes that helped the Revolutionaries record the highest point total in program history and secure a runner-up finish in the conference standings.
Before her time at George Washington, Setchko coached the Cal lightweight rowing program to continued success. In 2018, she guided the Golden Bears to two event victories at the Dad Vail Regatta before capturing silver and bronze medals at the American Collegiate Rowing Association (ACRA) Championships. The previous season, Cal enjoyed an impressive championship campaign, earning two gold medals, one silver, and one bronze at the Western Intercollegiate Rowing Association (WIRA) Championships before adding two more titles at the ACRA Championships.
A former walk-on rower at Cornell University, Setchko concluded her collegiate career with a silver medal at the Eastern Sprints during her senior season. She went on to spend eight years competing at the elite level.
Throughout her racing career, Setchko captured multiple Elite National Championships in both sweep rowing and sculling while competing as an openweight, lightweight, and coxswain. She also earned a silver medal in the lightweight pair at the Pan American Games, claimed three Head of the Charles Regatta titles in the lightweight four, and won both the Canadian Henley and San Diego Crew Classic twice.
A Bay Area native, Sechko grew up in Berkeley and currently resides in Alameda.
