SAN FRANCISCO — No matter the week, Saint Mary's Track continues to find ways to break program records in impressive fashion. This week, two more records fell on the women's side as the Gaels were split up between the Mike Fanelli Classic and the Stanford Invitational, with season-bests and PRs aplenty for another successful weekend on the track.
Â
Gaels have become accustomed to
Rayna Stanziano being the fastest Gael in the bunch, and to a degree that was true this weekend, but she wasn't the only Gael to break a program record. Stanziano was invited to the Stanford Invitational and ran in the 1500m, where she finished third overall in her heat with a time of 4:17.2, shattering her previous school record that she set one year ago. This time is six seconds faster than the mark she posted last weekend at the Cal Poly Invitational, and this time secures her a spot in the NCAA West Prelims at the end of May, the second year in a row she will compete in the event.
Â
She was not the only Gael taking a school record over the weekend, as
Sylvia Ingram set the Saint Mary's record in the 5000m at the Mike Fanelli Classic. She finished fifth in her heat with a time of 17:02.55, breaking the previous record that was held by Haley Dorris, a mark that has stood since 2017. Ingram continues to add to a long list of strong runs that she has posted as a freshman very early in her collegiate career. Her mark in the 5000m this weekend was also an incredible 28-second personal record.
Â
Staying on the women's side, seven other Gaels recorded personal records this weekend, starting with
Malia Gay in the 1500m, where she ran it in 4:38.90. Five other Gaels joined Ingram in PRs in the 5000m:
Molly Dreher (17:11.22),
Alize Hartke (17:43.13),
Alyssa Escay (18:13.32),
Sofia Cuevas (18:18.25), and
Anna Ranieri (18:42.66).
Trinity Santana ran in the 3000m steeplechase and she posted a personal best with her time of 11:43.34.
Â
On the men's side, a host of Gaels were quick in the 10000m, with three running personal bests in that event.
Chandler Maciel was the front man for the Gaels, as he finished in 11
th overall in a crowded field with his time of 30:18.82.
Sebastian Andersson was next across the line for SMC, and he posted a top-20 time with his mark of 31:07.74, good for another personal best.
Muhammed Ahmed came across third for the Gaels, and the freshman posted a 31:21.39 which was yet another personal best in the 10000m, closing out a successful stint for the guys.
Â
Saint Mary's will return to action next weekend as the they head to Cal for the Brutus Hamilton Invitational on Saturday, April 9. Action begins in the morning and will run throughout the afternoon on the campus of the University of California.
