LAST TIME OUT
The Gaels couldn't keep up with Nevada on Tuesday in a 13-3 loss in non-conference action.

The Gaels got on the board when Dalton Mashore walked to start the fifth inning, swiped second and third for his 19th and 20th stolen bases of the season, and came in to score on a Gavin Napier RBI ground out to cut the deficit to 4-1.

Saint Mary's would score all three of their runs on outs. Kyle Velazquez drove in Seth Nager with a sac fly in the seventh, and Javy Espinoza had an RBI groundout in the ninth to plate Nager.

ADDITIONAL NOTES
Saint Mary's will allow fans in for free this season to Gaels baseball games as construction on the new stadium seating will take place this season.

ABOUT GONZAGA
Gonzaga catcher Tyler Rando was named to the 2022 Buster Posey National Collegiate Catcher of the Year Award Watchlist. Rando was one of 76 D-I catchers nominated for initial watchlist for the award, which is given annually to the top D-1 collegiate catcher as voted on by head coaches and sports information directors – the list will be updated to include other candidates until May 4, 2022.

This is the second consecutive year Rando has been nominated for the award. In 2021, Rando was a Second Team All-WCC honoree after driving in 28 runs while holding down home plate with a team-high 340 putouts and .994% fielding to go with 19 assists.

The Zags return 24 players from 2021. GU was selected as the preseason West Coast Conference favorite by the league's 10 head coaches. GU earned nine of ten first-place votes.

Reigning WCC Coach of the Year Mark Machtolf is entering his 19th season at the helm of the program, and his 32nd season on the Gonzaga coaching staff overall. He has a career record of 521-416-2.

ABOUT SAC STATE
The Gaels won 8-2 in Sacramento back on March 8. Sac State was ranked No. 24 the previous week before playing the Gaels.

Jackson Hulett went 6.2 innings to get the win allowing just a solo home run in the second inning and an RBI double in the seventh while walking only one and striking out seven on 91 pitches.
With their 7-4 win on Saturday against Seattle U, the Hornets clinched their third straight WAC series victory -- and their first at home -- of 2022. Sacramento State has now won back-to-back-to-back conference series for the first time since winning five straight series from the end of 2019 to the first four league series of 2021 (no conference games were played in 2020 after the season was canceled due to the pandemic).

Sacramento State won its first midweek game of the year and snapped a seven-game skid in midweek contests dating back to last year with a 13-6 win at Pacific on Tuesday (April 19). The Hornets' last midweek win came in an 11-6 triumph at Kansas on April 27, 2021, while the victory also avenged a 5-2 loss to the Tigers earlier this season at John Smith Field. Sacramento State's 13 runs were the most in a midweek win for the Hornets since a 15-7 win at UC Davis on April 15, 2014.
