MORAGA, Calif. - Saint Mary's Golfer Mitchell Hoey took second place with a 2-under 70 at the U.S. Open qualifier at Fountain Grove Golf Club in Santa Rosa, Calif. to advance to a final qualifying round.

There he will compete for a spot in this year's U.S. Open Championship June 16 - 19, 2022. The five lowest individual scores at Santa Rosa advanced to the final qualifier.
 
The De La Salle High product had a great freshman year, including finishing second at the SMC Invitational in November with a 205 and sixth at the Rutherford Intercollegiate hosted by Penn State with a 215. Mitchell had an average score of 73.10 this season, playing in 10 tournaments overall.
