MORAGA, Calif. – Saint Mary's Women's Basketball has released the dates and opponents for their non-conference schedule for the 2022-23 season.
Â
The Gaels will start their season hosting the University of Nevada on November 7, the same opponent they opened the season at last year with a 66-61 road win. From there SMC will make the trip down to Riverside, Calif. to take on Cal Baptist for their lone road game in November on the 12th.
Â
That's followed by four-straight home games, starting with SMC's first match up with Rice University of Conference USA since 1992 on November 16. The Gaels won that lone meeting 85-79 in overtime in Moraga. Saint Mary's will then host the Cal Bears on November 20 for the first time since 2018 in a game that went to OT as well at then McKeon Pavilion.
Â
The Gaels will host their annual Thanksgiving Tournament on November 25 and 26, welcoming Niagara University and the University of Kansas to UCU Pavilion. It will be the first-ever meeting with Niagara on November 25 and just the second meeting ever against Kansas. SMC last played the Jayhawks - who went 21-10 last season - on the road in Lawrence, Kan. in December of 2019.
Â
Saint Mary's will stay local for their next two games, heading to the South Bay to take on San Jose State on December 1 and host UC Davis on December 3.
Â
But the Gaels will head out to the Mountain Time Zone to finish the non-conference slate. They'll take on Boise State of the Mountain West Conference on December 10 in Boise and Montana State of the Big Sky Conference on the 12th, who went 22-13 last season.
Â
Saint Mary's last played Boise State in 2017 for a 74-72 win in Boise, but haven't played Montana State since 1992. It will only be the third meeting all time between SMC and Montana State, who have split the previous two meetings.
Â
The Gaels are coming off an 18-15 season in 2021-22, finishing the campaign winning the Women's Basketball Invitational in Lexington, Ky. and are looking to build off the successful finish to the season for a young Saint Mary's team.
