MORAGA, Calif. — Just days after the 2022 Cross Country season began in style for a host of Saint Mary's runners,
Sam Tyas has been named the Bay Alarm Student-Athlete of the Week.

The men's 8k race began the proceedings in Golden Gate Park with Saint Mary's finishing fourth overall out of 14 teams. The Gaels had three runners inside the top 25 through the 6k averaging a 12:33 time. Tyas ran a solid race throughout, finishing 7
th overall in a time of 25:12.3 in the 8k race. He was one of two Gaels to place inside the top-10, with his time being tops among all SMC runners.

Tyas and his 25:12.3 time were the third-fastest amongst all West Coast Conference runners in the race. The Gaels fourth-place finish overall was only behind San Francisco in terms of WCC schools, with the Dons finishing third with just nine more points in team scoring.

With an off weekend on tap, the Saint Mary's men's runners will prepare for the Santa Clara Duel, which will take place with the women's runners on Friday, September 16. It will be the first of two times the Gaels will run at Baylands Park, with the Bronco Invite set to take place in Sunnyvale on October 15.
