LAST TIME OUT
Saint Mary's went on the road to close out week two of the season, and they went to the South Bay to take on San Jose State. The Gaels dropped the match in four sets, but they were able to win their second set of the year. They started off slow, but continued to improve as the match went on, eventually win set three. They did so after trailing 21-18 in the set, closing it out on a
Genevieve Bane kill and an attack from the Spartans, winning the set 26-24.
HATS OFF TO HAWLEY
Friday night was a career-best performance for one of the Gaels best attackers,
Hawley Harrer. The fifth-year senior from Sisters, Oregon was virtually unstoppable, leading the Gaels with a career-best 19 kills on the night. What was perhaps even more impressive was that she did not have a single attack error on 40 swings, racking up a .475 hitting percentage. She also tied for the team lead in blocks with four on what was an all-around spectacular night for her.
ABOUT PENNSYLVANIA
The Quakers began their 2022 season last weekend at the Rose Hill Classic, hosted by Fordham. They dropped two of three matches, scoring a win in their finale against Fairleigh Dickinson. They've got a pair of standouts through three matches, with Madison Risch and Madeline McGregor pacing the team in kills (41 and 34, respectively). The Quakers struggled last season to the tune of an 8-15 record, going just 5-9 in the Ivy League.
ABOUT CSUN
The Matadors have struggled through their first two weeks of the season, going just 1-5 through their first two tournaments. They opened the year at the Amy Svoboda Memorial Classic, hosted by Air Force, and beat Texas A&M – Commerce in straight sets. The following weekend, they dropped all three at the Gonzaga Invitational. They've struggled with the opposing block, allowing nearly three blocks per set, and are hitting at just .153 on the season as a result. The offense runs through Nicole Nevarez, who has a team-best 73 kills through six matches.
