MORAGA, Calif. – After a solid performance over the weekend at the Portland Indoor One,
Penelopea Gordon snatched the Bay Alarm Student-Athlete of the Week award for the week of January 23.Â
Â
The freshman left runners in the dust all day long, as she claimed victory in the women's 400m. Gordon started off composed the first half of the race, then turned on the jets for the final 200m, winning the event by nearly 2 seconds with a time of 59.82. Â
Â
Gordon was influential in the 4x400m relay as well, bursting from the back of the field to help the Gaels claim third in the final event of the day.
Â
Head Coach
Marty Kinsey was full of praise for his freshman runner, "Penelopea ran her first ever indoor 400m and nearly set a lifetime best. Being able to run that fast with few targeted workouts, and on an unconventional indoor surface, is very encouraging. She also did a great job with her anchor leg passing and extending the lead for the Gaels to win their heat."
Â
Gordon and the rest of the Saint Mary's Track and Field team will be back in action on February 5 as they head back up to Oregon for the Portland Indoor Two.Â
