FAIRFAX, Calif. – The Saint Mary's Golf Team finished fourth overall out of 14 teams at the Alister MacKenzie Invitational hosted by Cal. Kristian Bressum also came in fourth overall among 80 golfers, and his 199 strokes are fourth-best in program history over 54 holes.
Bressum finished 14-under par – just two strokes behind the leader – and added five more birdies to his 14 from day one to put him third overall. The Randers, Denmark native was 8-under on par fours, third-best of any player at the tournament, all after tying the single-round program record with a 62 in round two. The Gaels as a team were also 8-under on fours.
Connor Reis finished the tournament tied for seventh at 12-under par, and his 201 strokes are now sixth in SMC history. Reis was second overall with two birdies and second in par fives made at 8-under. Freshman James Watney made par 36 times while competing as an individual, which tied him for fifth overall.
"Overall it was a competitive week and another chance to play in the final group with a strong finish on the line," Said Head Coach Scott Hardy. "We had hoped for a stronger final but the guys hung in there and battled until the end. Kristian played some great golf and Connor continues his great form coming off his win. A top four against this field is very competitive, it shows this team has turned the corner and even we didn't have our best we are still in the hunt."
It was another strong showing at the Alister MacKenzie for the SMC program, with the previous record of a 63 being set by Jonathon De Los Reyes there in 2014. Robert and Mike McRae each shot a 65 in the first round of Cal's tournament in 2007.
