GOLF | Gaels in Third as Bressum Ties Program Single-Round Record

FAIRFAX, Calif. – The Saint Mary's Golf Team picked up where they left off at the Nick Watney Invite with another strong day at the Alister MacKenzie Invitational on Monday. Kristian Bressum tied Connor Reis' single-round record with a 62 of his own in round two, and the Gaels as a team sit in third place, just one stroke behind second-place New Mexico.
Bressum's career-best round has him in second place out of 80 golfers, and featured some of his most consistent play as a Gael. The junior made nine birdies in round two for 14 total over the two rounds. He shot a 68 in round one to finish Monday at 12-under par.
The Gaels as a whole have converted the most par fives of any team at 19-under, and the third-most par fours at 9-under par. They have the third-most birdies of any team with 45.
Reis is not far behind Bressum, as he is in a tie for seventh overall. He is currently 9-under par with a 67 in round one and a 66 in round two, and is 1-under on par threes while 4-under on par fours.
James Watney is competing as an individual and shot a 66 in round two to jump up to a tie for 27th and is 3-under par overall. He's tied with his teammate Mitchell Hoey who is 3-under via a 71 in round one and a 68 in round two.
It was another strong showing at the Alister MacKenzie for the SMC program, with the previous record of a 63 being set by Jonathon De Los Reyes there in 2014. Robert and Mike McRae each shot a 65 in the first round of Cal's tournament in 2007.

The Gaels will all tee off on hole one tomorrow morning, with 11-minute intervals between starts.
