LAST TIME OUT
Saint Mary's had a few runners compete this past weekend at the Husky Classic, as Rayna Stanziano and Molly Dreher made the trip to Seattle to compete in the mile.
Dreher was the first of the two Gaels to feature, racing in the third heat. The junior ran a solid race, finishing 10th in her heat out of 14 runners. Dreher's 4:57.82 is the fastest she's ran in the event all season, smashing her previous best of 5:05.82 which she set back at the UW Preview in January.
Stanziano hit the track in heat seven, and jumped out to a quick pace. She challenged the leaders throughout the race, eventually dropping off the pace but just barely. She crossed the line in 4th of 14 runners in a time of 4:42.84, a nine second improvement on the mile she ran back at the UW Preview.
In a field of 115 runners, the Gaels showed up. After solid improvements from both runners, Stanziano's 4:42.84 placed her 20th overall, while Dreher's 4:57.82 earned her 90th.
The Gaels last competed as a team back on in the first week of February at the Portland Indoor Two.
There were improvements across the board as multiple runners set personal bests.
The 3000m was the most popular event of the day, as 14 Gaels hit the track for the longest race of the meet.
On the women's side, freshman Kaylee Barnes took top honors, placing 1st out of 23 runners in a time of 10:51.24.
Two more Gaels joined Barnes inside the top-10, with Anna Ranieri finishing 7th in a time of 11:01.16, and Sylvia Ingram right behind her in 8th in a time of 11:01.54.
Just outside the top-10 were Sofia Cuevas in 11th in a time of 11:04.82, and Lauren Buckley in 14th in a time of 11:26.41.
On the men's side, three Gaels placed inside the top-10 out of a 44-man field. Blaine Reynolds and Curtis Volf led the way, finishing in 7th and 8th in times of 8:46.12 and 8:49.33 respectively. Thomas Osborne was just behind his Gaels teammates in 10th in a time of 8:49.50.
Dani Rowlinson claimed victory in the women's mile, beating out a field of 35 other runners. The senior won the event in a time of 5:06.07, two seconds quicker than the time she ran at the Portland Indoor One two weeks ago.
Emily Field competed in the mile as well, snagging 14th in a time of 5:25.64, a four second improvement from the Portland Indoor One.
The 4x400m ended the day's action, as each team featured a relay. On the women's side, a team of Maddie Fletcher, Dani Rowlinson, Jaden DeSouza, and Kaitlin Laner finished an impressive 2nd overall. The Gaels ran a 4:10.35, three seconds ahead of 3rd place Pepperdine.
A relay consisting of Eric Martinez, Raphael Lobo, Sam Andersen, and Isaiah Jimenez finished 10th out of 13 relays in a time of 3:51.74.
