MORAGA, Calif. – Three Saint Mary's Women's Basketball players were named to the College Sports Communicators Academic All-District Team on Tuesday, with Ali Bamberger, Tayla Dalton, and Hannah Rapp all receiving the honor.
To be nominated, a student-athlete must be a starter or important reserve with at least a 3.50 cumulative grade point average (on a 4.0 scale) at his or her current institution. Nominated athletes must have participated in at least 50 percent of the team's games, and no student-athlete is eligible until he/she has completed one full calendar year at his/her current institution and is at least a sophomore academically and athletically.
Bamberger is an Allied Health Science major with a 3.62 GPA, and of course has been a vital part of the Gaels on the floor, again leading the team in points per game (14.1) and rebounds (8.3). Last season she was the WCC Newcomer of the Year, WCC All-Conference First Team, and a WCC All-Academic Honorable Mention.
Tayla Dalton had the highest GPA of the three winners at a 3.83. Last season Dalton Played in all 33 games, 28 starts, led the team in steals (31), scored double figures 12 times. This season the Business Administration major has played in 28 games with 24 starts while averaging 7.0 points per game and is second on the team in steals with 29.
Fellow Business Administration major Hannah Rapp made the list with a 3.64 GPA and has made the biggest jump on the court of the three players. She has scored in double digits in eight games this season, along with two games of nine points. The sophomore has three games of double-digit rebounds with two games of nine boards, and is second on the team in rebounds and assists.
Graduate students who are competing at a different institution than the one from which they earned their undergraduate degree are eligible even if they are in their first semester at the graduate institution. Graduate transfers are only eligible if their undergraduate GPA was also a 3.50 or higher.
