MORAGA, Calif. – Coleman Schmidt's three-homer weekend helped spark the Gaels series win at BYU and earned him the Bay Alarm Student-Athlete of the Week Award for March 27 as voted on by the SMC Athletics staff.
Â
The Reno, Nev. native hit .273 over the three-game set, and his two home runs on Friday powered the Gaels to their first win at BYU since 2015. He hit a solo home run and a two-run shot in game one – both to left center – and laced a solo homer to straight away center in SMC's 6-4 win in game two of the series.
Â
Schmidt's third long ball of the series gave him the team lead at six home runs and in RBI (17), as he has started every game for the Gaels this season. Overall, he's second on the team among qualified batters with a .290 batting average and leads the team in slugging at .609.
Â
Those six home runs are tied for third most in the WCC, while his 42 total bases are tied for 10th and his 10 extra base hits are tied for 13th in the conference.
Â
The Gaels return home this weekend to Portland from Friday, March 31 to Sunday April 2.
