CHULA VISTA, Calif. – The Saint Mary's Golf Team will play in the Lamkin Grips San Diego Classic, co-hosted by the University of San Diego and San Diego State March 6-7 at the San Diego Country Club.
 
THE FIELD
There will be 15 teams at the 2023 Lamkin San Diego Classic. That list of the Gaels competition includes the University of San Diego, San Diego State, Nevada, Washington, Colorado State, Wyoming, Cal-Berkeley, BYU, LMU, UCLA, New Mexico, University of Denver, Hawaii, and San Francisco.
 
LAST TIME OUT
Kristian Bressum was the top player for Saint Mary's after the John A. Burns Invitational as the sophomore finished 2-under par for the tournament at 214 strokes overall.
 
Tournament officials got in as many holes as possible on day two in anticipation of the forecasted rain. But the heavy stuff never came, and since the inclement weather held off outside of some intermittent showers, teams were able to complete the tournament in two days.
 
Ethan Ashbrook shot a 68 on the par-72 course in round three, and climbed almost 30 spots on the leaderboard to finish at 215 strokes and 1-under par for the tournament.
 
Saint Mary's finished 19th of 21 teams overall, but had the fourth-best conversion rate on par fours at 2-under. Much of that sparked by Ashbrook who was 5-under on par fours, good for 10th best of the field, and he made 15 birdies.
 
ABOUT THE LAMKIN SAN DIEGO CLASSIC
Teams will play 54 holes over the two-day tournament. Day one will consist of 36 holes of stroke play, followed by a final 18 on day two. San Diego Country Club will be set up for a par 72 and 7,033 yards. Scoring will be five players, count the low four scores. Selected teams will be allowed an invited individual.
