LAST TIME OUT
The Gaels are coming off a 1-1 road trip which saw them lose to Washington State 5-2 before rebounding with a convincing 7-0 performance over Eastern Washington.Â
Â
Olivia Rook and
Madison Weekley led the charge in doubles, dominating their match against EWU's Scout Mathews and Sara Vasic. The SMC pairing took advantage from the first serve and never looked back, winning the match 6-1.Â
Â
In the No. 2 match,
Stefanie Silva and
Tian Yu Dong started off strong against the Eagles duo of Renata Gabuzyan and Kenzington Mann. The score was 4-3 in favor of the Gaels when the match was called off early in the first set.Â
Â
After winning their doubles match against Washington State yesterday, the SMC pairing of
Jordan Harris and
Lene Mari Hovda once again dominated their doubles match, winning 6-3 against Isabella Foshee and Leandra Nizetic. Their win clinched the doubles for the Gaels as well.
Â
On the single's side, the Gaels continued their dominance, denying the Eagles of any positive momentum.
Â
Jordan Harris was all business in the No. 1 matchup, besting EWU's Scout Mathews 6-2, 6-1. The fifth year didn't even let Mathews get into the match, as Harris played strong tennis from start to finish.Â
Â
Harris' doubles partner
Lene Mari Hovda was a force to be reckoned with in her singles match as well. Facing off against the Eagles Leandra Nizetic, the two went back-and-forth throughout the first set.Â
Â
Hovda held firm, winning the set 7-5. She then turned up the heat in the second set, giving Nizetic no chance to fight back, as Hovda won the second set 6-1.Â
Â
Hovda's victory clinched the overall victory for SMC with her match win as well.
Â
In the No. 3 matchup, sophomore
Olivia Rook faced a tough opponent in EWU's Renata Gabuzyan. The two were incredibly well matched, as Rook took the first set 6-4 before Gabuzyan came back in the second set 6-4.Â
Â
With the match to be decided on a tiebreak, SMC's Rook dug deep, hitting strong shot after strong shot to win the tiebreak 10-6 and clinch the match as well.
Â
Continuing the trend of strong performances,
Stefanie Silva produced an impressive display against the Eagles Kenzington Mann. Silva was ruthless from the start, barely allowing Mann to get into the match.Â
Â
Silva won the first set 6-3, before backing up her play in the second set to win 6-4.Â
Â
Tian Yu Dong was impressive on the singles court again as she put in a textbook performance against EWU's Sara Vasic. The freshman started strong and kept her foot down, winning the match 6-2, 6-1.Â
