MORAGA, Calif. – Saint Mary's Baseball will close out their WCC, regular-season schedule by hosting second-place University of San Diego this Friday to Sunday, May 12-14.
Â
The Gaels are 4.5 games ahead of seventh-place BYU for the final WCC Tournament spot, but the Cougars have six conference games remaining to SMC's three. BYU will take on Pacific and Pepperdine over the next two weekends, while the Gaels have USD and a non-conference series with Fresno State.
Â
Not only does Saint Mary's want to win this last WCC series to fend off BYU, but the Gaels only trail USD by two games in the standings and could potentially climb all the way to second place. The Gaels will also honor graduating seniors
Riley Lamb,
Blake McDonald,
Ryan Taurek, and
Bill Ralston.

LAST TIME OUT
Saint Mary's Baseball couldn't pull off a sweep at Gonzaga after a 3-0 loss on Sunday, but still helped solidify their spot in the
WCC Tournament standings by winning the series in Spokane, Wash. The Gaels scored 19 runs over the first two games of the series, though they struggled to get runs across in the finale.
Â
The Gaels got great starting pitching from
Connor Linchey and
Ryan Sanders over the weekend. Linchey went 6.1 innings allowing just two runs on four hits, with two walks and four strikeouts on Friday. It was his fourth-straight quality start, fifth of the year, and the seventh-straight time he's gone at least six innings.
Â
Sanders collected his first win of the season by going seven strong innings, allowing just one run on five hits, with two walks and five strikeouts. It was the second-straight solid start for the senior after allowing just two runs in five innings at USF in his previous outing.

ABOUT USD
Last season the Toreros tied for second in the WCC regular-season standings before a run through the WCC Tournament take home the team's second-ever WCC Tournament Championship. The victory advanced USD to the 2022 NCAA Corvallis Regional, where the Toreros opened the event with a signature win over perennial powerhouse Vanderbilt, before losses to No. 4 Oregon State and Vanderbilt.
Â
This season San Diego was picked to finish second in the WCC, which is where they currently stand. They rank third in runs scored, and fourth in ERA in the WCC.
