FAIRFAX, Calif. - The Saint Mary's men's golf team was back in action today competing in the Alister Mackenzie Invitational hosted by ACC member Cal. The Gaels finished round one with a solid team score of 275 (-9) led by junior Aidan Lee who continues his solid play after winning the Mark Simpson Invitational last week.
Lee recorded another eagle and three birdies on the back nine to finish 4-under-par. Right behind him was sophomore Avery Lazarski who has been a part of the team's starting five in every tournament this season. Lazarski led Saint Mary's with six birdies in round one to finish with a 68 (-3). Despite a solid first round, the course was very gettable all day long and the Gaels sat in 10th place with the afternoon round to follow.
In round two, all four counting scores would finish in red figures and this time senior Zack Missigman would lead the charge with a stellar 64 (-7), recording eight birdies and just one bogey for a near flawless second round. His 7-under performance would go down as a new career low as he helped catapult the Gaels into fifth place heading into Tuesday's final round.
As a team, Saint Mary's shaved off nine strokes from their opening round. Avery Lazarski and transfer Ian Bruchhauser combined to shoot 9-under-par as Bruchhauser recorded his low round as a Gael with a 66 (-5). Lee, Missigman and Lazarski all sat inside the top-20 individually after the first two rounds as the Gaels entered the final day just three strokes off of third place.
Head coach Scott Hardy also brought Go Nakatsukasa to compete as an individual. After struggling last week at the Mark Simpson, Nakatsukasa put together back-to-back rounds of three-under-par for a quality first day of golf. He sat just outside the top-20 in a tie for second place out of all individuals in the field.
The final round of the Alister Mackenzie Invitational will take place Tuesday, October 8th with tee times starting at 8:45 AM. Full tournament leaderboard and individual results can be found HERE or at smcgaels.com.
