LAST TIME OUT (3rd place at Mark Simpson Invitational)
After slow starts to their first two tournaments of the year, the Gaels flipped the script and posted a 20-under first round to propel themselves into first place. They were just two strokes off of their single round program record which they set last year at the White Sands Bahamas Invitational. Leading the charge was senior Zack Missigman who recorded a 65 (-7) opening round to sit atop the individual leaderboard. Aidan Lee and Avery Lazarski also put together solid opening rounds as they combined to shoot 11-under-par.
Saint Mary's would drop some strokes in the final two rounds but rattled off seven birdies from their counting scores in their final five holes to jump back into third place for their second top-three finish of the fall season. Aidan Lee continued to put up terrific numbers and with a 68 (-4) final round he would finish in a three way tie for first. The trio would play a single playoff and with a Par Lee would earn a share of the individual title for his first collegiate win of his career.
The Gaels have finished in the top-10 in all three events this fall and will look for their third top three finish before finishing the fall season with a home event at Bayonet Golf Club on October 21st. "We are looking forward to getting back to Meadow Club and keeping our momentum going from Colorado", said head coach Scott Hardy. "Competing on a really good golf course designed by Alister Mackenzie is a great experience for our guys. If we can play smart golf and stay on the correct side of the holes this week we can capitalize on scoring opportunities. With a solid all-around team effort we can be in position for another strong finish".
