

WXC | Gaels Look to Continue Positive Momentum at NCAA Regionals

MORAGA, Calif. - The Saint Mary's Women's Cross Country team is heading to Colfax, Washington for the NCAA Division I West Region meet on Friday, November 15th. The team will compete starting at 2:00 PM with Washington State serving as the hosting site.
In the 2023 season, the women had their highest finish at regionals in program history, as they placed 17th out of 39 teams. The Gaels finished ahead of WCC foe Santa Clara and had three runners finish in the top-82 out of 253 competitors. Saint Mary's top finishers were Rayna Stanziano, who exhausted cross country eligibility last season, Molly Dreher, who graduated in the spring of 2024, and Kaylee Barnes who has consistently been the Gaels number one finisher this season.
GAELS RECAP
At the West Coast Conference Championship, the Gaels placed 5th out of 11 schools. Saint Mary's was the lone California school to finish in the top-5 as junior Kaylee Barnes led the team. She finished 12th overall with a time of 20:30.8. Barnes opened the race in 22nd at the 2K split, jumped to 16th at the 4K mark and finished in 12th. With her 12th place finish, Barnes was named second team All-WCC, earning her second all-conference nod in as many years.
Eleanor Jensen finished in 27th with a time of 21:17.5, jumping seven spots from first split to finish, followed by Klara Frih in 43rd, jumping eight spots throughout the race and finishing with a time of 22:05.8.
The fifth place finish for the Gaels marks their second top-five finish in as many years. The Gaels had not placed in the top five in back-to-back years since doing it in 2000 and 2001.
