WTEN | Gaels Take On The Spartans For The First Home Match Of The Spring Season

MORAGA, Calif. - The Women's Tennis team will be competing at home for the first time this spring as they take on San Jose State Friday at 1:00 p.m. 
 
The Gaels have a 6-3 overall record against the Spartans since they first competed against each other in 2002-2003. The past six match ups between the two teams have been the most consecutive in program history. The Gaels are 4-2 within those past six years. Saint Mary's is 5-1 overall competing against SJSU at home as they look to extend their win streak to three this season.

LAST TIMEOUT
The Gaels pull out a 4-3 win after a back and forth battle between Fresno State. 
 
The Bulldogs secured the first point by defeating the Gaels duo Olivia Rook and Madison Weekley 6-4, and duo Tian Yu Dong and Juliette Daries 6-4.
 
Sofia Daryaie evened the score for the Gaels defeating Fresno State Eliza Dunbar 6-3, 6-0. FSU went up by two, defeating Dong 2-6, 3-6, and Stefanie Silva 2-6, 4-6. 
 
Daries pulled out a match win for the Gaels defeating Mariia Vyshkina 6-4, 6-3. Iman Khan tied the score 3-3 defeating her opponent in three sets 2-6, 6-1, 6-3. 
 
The match point was between SMC Rook and FSU Hannah Pieper. The Bulldogs took the first match, the Gaels took the second, leaving it up to the last match to give the team the win. Rook pulled a 6-3 win over Pieper in the last set, giving SMC the win.  
 
ABOUT SAN JOSE STATE
The Spartans are currently undefeated this season, beating UC Riverside 6-1, Sacramento State 5-2, and Cal Poly 4-3. The match up between SJSU and USF has been postponed due to weather complications. 
 
Senior Carlina Millan was named Player of the Week and Cheuk Ying Shek was honored as Freshman of the Week for the week of January 31st, after their performances in their opening week against UC Riverside and Sacramento State. 
 
In their last match up against Cal Poly, SJSU and the Mustangs went one for one after every match played, where the Senior from Bulgaria, Rozalina Youseva, won 6-4, 7-5 in straight sets.
