MORAGA, Calif. – Saint Mary's Baseball's Ryan Pierce has been named the Shamrock Office Solutions Student-Athlete of the Week as voted on by the SMC staff, after his long-ball heroics in the team's series win over Utah Valley this past weekend.
The Gaels third baseman hit three home runs over the four-game series, including the series-clinching, walk-off winner on Sunday. He hit .389 over the weekend with eight RBIs as well. His first home run put SMC ahead 8-6 in the seventh inning of game two, when his three-run blast erased a 6-5 deficit in Saturday's 11-8 win.
His second home run of the series was a two-run knock that brought the Gaels within one in the eighth inning on Sunday, before he walked it off in the 10th with a no-doubt, solo shot to left on a 2-2 count to win the series.
The Brentwood, Calif. native is hitting .379 to start the year, and his 11 hits are good for second on the team, as are his four doubles and three home runs. His 11 RBIs are tied for second on the club as well, and his gaudy .828 slugging percentage is tied for third on the Gaels.
The Clayton Valley High product hit .426 as a sophomore with 17 home runs and 70 RBI at Los Medanos College before coming to SMC this season. The Gaels will head on the road for the first time this season when they head to Seattle for a four-game set with Seattle University this weekend.
ALSO NOMINATED: Tayla Dalton – Women's Basketball, Kristian Bressum – Golf, Thibaud Maxant and Mathis Moysan – Men's Tennis, Iman Kahn – Women's Tennis, Molly Dreher – Cross Country, Hannah Ferguson - Softball, Mitchell Saxen – Men's Basketball.
