Box Score EUGENE, Oreg. - The Saint Mary's Women's Tennis team dominated 6-1 against Eastern Washington.
The Gaels took the first set in the doubles with
Stefanie Silva and
Sofia Daryaie winning 6-2. The Eagles came back to defeat
Iman Khan and
Olivia Rook leaving it up to
Tian Yu Dong and
Juliette Daries to secure the point for Saint Mary's. The match between Dong and Daries was a back and forth battle between the Eagles Jennifer Kida and Anait Arutiunian. The Gaels were able to secure the point with a score of 7(5)-6.
EWU down by a point going into the singles, were able to tie it in the first set with Arutiunian defeating Dong 6-0, 6-0. The Eagles tying the score didn't stop the Gaels.
The Gaels won the rest of the singles with Khan defeating Kida 6-1, 6-1 and Rook out scoring her opponent 6-0, 6-3 to give the Gaels a 3-1 lead. Silva gave the Gaels the winning point, outlasting her opponent Isabella Foshee 6-3, 6-0.
Daryaie took her match 6-4, 6-3 against the Eagles Kenzington Mann. Daries' match up against Leandra Nizetic was the only set to go into three. She lost the first one 7-6(0), but dominated in the last two out scoring Nizetic 6-2, 10-8.
The Gaels will compete again tomorrow at 11:00 a.m. against the University of Oregon.
