MORAGA, Calif. — The 2024 softball season opens up this week, but 2024 recruiting is already underway, as the Gaels are excited to announce the signing of Kiara Vasquez out of Upland. Vasquez is an ultimate swiss army knife utility player with an ability to play every position but pitcher. Vasquez will join the Gaels in the fall of 2024, and will hope to play two seasons with her older sister Odhi, who will be entering her sophomore season when it kicks off this weekend.
Vasquez is a tremendously rangy defender, who makes highlight reel plays both on the infield and in the outfield. At the plate, she boasts excellent gap to gap power from the right side of the plate. Vasquez prepped at Upland High School just east of Los Angeles, and played club ball for Athletics Mercado Academy.
The Gaels have continued an upward trajectory over the past five seasons under Head Coach Sonja Garnett, and Vasquez will look to be another valuable addition that will help keep the program moving in the right direction.
