FRESNO, Calif. - The Saint Mary's Women's Tennis Team will be heading to Fresno, Calif. this weekend to take on Fresno Pacific on Saturday at 10:00 a.m. and Fresno State on Sunday at 11:00 a.m.

The Gaels will be matching up against Fresno Pacific for the first time in program history.Â

Saint Mary's and Fresno State have competed against each other a total of eight times since 2008, six of those years consecutively. The Gaels are 5-3 overall against Bulldogs winning the last two of three matches against CSU Fresno.Â

Saint Mary's had a tough battle against the University of Oregon in Eugene last weekend falling to a 5-2 loss.Â

The deciding point in the doubles was between SMC duo
Tian Yu Dong and
Juliette Daries against Oregon Nina Geissler and Sophia Luescher. The Ducks were able to come out on top with a point, 6-7 (4-7).Â

The University of Oregon dominated in the first three singles matches defeating Gaels Dong 6-1, 6-2,
Iman Khan 6-1, 6-2, and Oliva Rook 6-3, 6-3. With the doubles point and the three from the singles, the Ducks secured the overall win against SMC.Â

Despite a Ducks win,
Sofia Daryaie came out stronger than her opponent winning 6-4,3-6, 10-8, along with Daries finishing the match for the Gaels with a 6-2, 5-7, 10-4 win.Â

ABOUT FRESNO PACIFICÂ
The Sunbirds are coming out of a 12-8 season, where they had a five game win streak close to the end of the season. Prior to this season, they had multiple players named to the Preseason Division II ITA National and Regional Rankings.Â

Sophomore Nayuma Subba comes in at #30 for a spot on the overall Division II Women's Singles Ranking, making her the third highest ranked PacWest player on that list. Subba led the Sunbirds coming in fourth in the Top 20 for the West Regional Women's Single, along with ranking fifth in the Top 10 for the Doubles Ranking with her partner Yume Ueoku.Â

ABOUT FRESNO STATE
The Bulldogs are on a two game win streak defeating one of the Gaels WCC competitors, Santa Clara 5-2, and Sacramento State 4-3. At the beginning of the season, September 2023, the Fresno State duo Yinglak Jittakoat and Matilde Magrini returned to the ITA All-American Championships, qualifying to play directly into the main draw of the doubles.

The duo was ranked No. 23 in the 2023 ITA preseason doubles team ranking, which happened to be the highest preseason ranking of a doubles team for Fresno State since 2009. The duo had a 17-7 overall, 8-2 at No. 1 doubles in 2023. The duo also finished on a high note with the NCAA doubles debut through an automatic bid as the top ranked doubles pair in the Mountain West.Â
