MARICOPA, Ariz. — Saint Mary's Golf got off to an excellent start on day one of the Cowboy Classic at the Ak-Chin Southern Dune Golf Club, sitting tied for fifth place in the 23 team field with a score 16 under par. Round one of the tournament was completed without incident, however, round two was halted with multiple Gaels on the 13th, 14th and 15th holes due to lightning, and will be culminated tomorrow before the start of round three.
After shooting a 68 in the final round of the Pauma Valley Invitational two weeks ago, Jack Jerge picked up where he left off, shooting a 67 to pace the Gaels in round one. The five under par round for Jack placed him tied for eighth place, but just one stroke off of the tournament lead. Aidan Lee finished just one stroke behind Jerge, tying him for 12th overall. Through their first 18 holes, Saint Mary's sat in third place as a team with a score of 12 under par.
Through 14 holes of round two, Jerge dropped two more strokes below par, bringing his score to seven under, tying him for fourth before the halting of the second round. Aidan Lee and Zack Missigman each also brought their scores down another stroke below par, as the Gaels found themselves tied for fifth place with Kansas and Cal State Fullerton. They sit 11 strokes behind tournament front runners Grand Canyon and three strokes out of the top three.
Play will continue tomorrow morning at 7:15 AM. Follow along with the live scoring here.
