GOLF | Strong Finish From Lee Leads Gaels to Top-10 Finish at the Cowboy Classic

MARICOPA, Ariz. — Saint Mary's Golf finished out rounds two and three at the Wyoming Cowboy Classic at the Ak-Chin Southern Dunes Golf Course, with the Gaels finishing tied for seventh place in the stacked 23 team field. As a team, the Gaels shot an 848, good for 16 under par. The seventh place finish was the best for the Gaels this Spring.
After round two was halted due to lightning, play resumed at 7:30 this morning. Jack Jerge finished out a stellar second round, shooting a 69, bringing his 36 hole score to 136 (-8). As a team, the Gaels found themselves in fourth place with two rounds complete at 17 under par, just five strokes behind the leader, USC and Grand Canyon at the time.
Saint Mary's cooled off in round three, but managed to maintain a top-10 spot, due in big part to Aidan Lee. The sophomore was the lone Gael to shoot below par in the final round, sparked by an epic stretch of five straight birdies between holes 13 and 17. Lee joined Jack Jerge as the only Gaels with two sub-70 rounds in the tournament. Lee finished with a score of 208 (-8), tied for seventh individually, while Jerge finished two strokes behind him at 210 (-6), tied for 13th. Lee dropped 15 birdies over the three rounds of the tournament, third most of any golfer at the Cowboy Classic.
Grand Canyon went onto win the tournament in their home state, with a team score of 833 (-31), while UNLV's Yuki Moriyama won the tournament individually, shooting a 64 in round three to bring his overall tournament score to 199 (-17).
The Gaels will have a quick turnaround, next taking part in the Missouri Tiger Intercollegiate, taking place on April 8 and 9 at the Old Hawthorne Golf Course.
