GOLF | Gaels Surge Into First Place, with Tournament Best Round on Day Two of the El Macero Classic
4/13/2024 5:50:00 PM | Men's Golf
DAVIS, Calif. — Conditions continued to stay tough at El Macero Golf Club, but somebody forgot to tell the Gaels, as they put together the first sub-par round of any team in the 2024 El Macero Classic. Saint Mary's shot an incredible (-2) round as team, surging from ninth place all the way up to first, taking the lead from Grand Canyon, who sits in third. CSUN sits one stroke behind the Gaels in second.
The Gaels epic rise was sparked by Jack Jerge. Jerge logged a pair of birdies on his fourth and fifth holes of the day, and added two more on his 10th and 11th holes. After a bogey on his 15th hole, Jerge bounced back to birdie the 16th, before closing out with back to back pars to close out an epic round of 68 (-4). The true freshman local product out of Pleasant Hill continues to impress for the Gaels, now sitting tied for third place with a two round score of +1.
Kristian Bressum and Connor Reis both had impressive rounds as well, shooting 71 and 72 respectively. Bressum shook off back to back bogeys on his first hole to finish (-1), while the even par round for Reis propelled him into the top-10, tied for eighth.
The final 18 holes of the El Macero Classic will play out tomorrow, as Saint Mary's looks to extend on what is currently just a one stroke lead in the tournament.
