10/11/2025 10:48:00 PM | Women's Soccer
SEATTLE, Wash. — After a nine-match unbeaten streak, Saint Mary's fell 2-0 to Seattle U in their match Saturday night. This result marks only the second loss of the season for the Gaels, the last one being back in late August in their match against Stanford, highlighting a remarkable start to the year. The Redhawks netted a goal in each half to hand the Gaels their first conference loss as they now sit at 3-1-1 in WCC play.
FIRST HALF SMC 0 - 1 SU
The Gaels started off the match strong, matching the Redhawks with seven shots in the first half, as freshman Ashlyn Vaughn led the team with three. However, Seattle U struck in the 24th minute, taking a 1-0 lead into halftime break.
FINAL SMC 0 - 2 SU
Seattle U added a late goal in the 80th minute to seal the 2-0 win, while Saint Mary's continued to create chances, but could not find the back of the net. Even with the loss, goalkeeper Kate Plachy recorded four saves, keeping the Redhawks from extending their lead. By the end of the half, Seattle U had outshot Saint Mary's 16-14, with four of those attempts coming from Gaels' leading goal scorer Sydney Middaugh.
Defenders Amari Hicks, Madison Casado, and Aleiyah Schexnayder, along with midfielder Maddie Lucas all put in full game efforts for the Gaels.
LOOKING AHEAD
Saint Mary's will head into their fourth week of conference play and return home to prepare for the Portland Pilots on Saturday, October 18th at 3:00 PM. The game will also mark this season's 'Think Pink Game' in honor of Breast Cancer awareness month. Free t-shirts will be given out to the first 100 fans in attendance. The match will be streamed live on ESPN+ and tickets can be purchased at smcgaels.com/tickets.
