SAN BRUNO, Calif. — After another pair of five set thriller victories, Saint Mary's Volleyball had a pair of student-athletes win West Coast Conference Weekly Awards, as Mya Allen was named the conference's Freshman of the Week for the second time in three weeks, while Ivona Lazovic earned the first WCC Setter of the Week award in her young career. This is the first time since the West Coast Conference began giving multiple weekly awards in 2020-21 that the Gaels have had multiple winners in the same week.
Mya Allen continues to be unstoppable for the Gaels, leading them to a pair of victories with 40 total kills in wins over Seattle U and Portland. She has now gone for 15+ kills in every match of the Gaels current five game win streak. Allen also had five aces this week to lead Saint Mary's, 12 digs, and a team-high three solo blocks. Her 4 aces against Seattle U were a new career-high. This is the second time in the past three weeks that Allen has earned this honor.
Ivona Lazovic led the Gaels with 63 assists in their two wins, exactly half of the 126 the team tallied for the week, while finishing second on the team with 15 digs. She recorded her fourth career double-double against Seattle U. As this is the first year that the West Coast Conference has given a Setter of the Week award, Lazovic becomes the first Gaels to earn this honor.
The Gaels will have a long week to prepare for a rematch with Seattle U on Saturday, November 1 at the Redhawk Center.
