MORAGA, Calif. — Following their best finish at the West Coast Conference Championships in 25 years, Saint Mary's Men's Cross Country will look to carry their momentum from a fourth place finish out 10 teams into their race at the NCAA West Regionals.
Earning a ninth place finish at the WCC Championships was junior Divan Du Plooy who finished the race in 23:42.8. Du Plooy's remarkable finish earned him the title of First Team All-WCC honors, making him the first Gaels runner to have received this distinction since 2016, as well as his first Shamrock Student-Athlete of the Week recognition as a Gael. Next in for Saint Mary's was Zane Jackson, who crossed the line in 23:54.6 to take 17th place. Following close behind was Oisin Spillane in 18th finding his personal best time of 23:58.4. Jason Habash (40th, 25:05.9) and Jon Fielding Stogner (46th, 25:18.4) rounded out Saint Mary's scoring.
Representing Saint Mary's at the NCAA West Regionals will be graduate students Zane Jackson, Oisin Spillane, Jon Fielding Stogner, and Jonathan Velasco, senior Jason Habash, along with juniors Divan Du Plooy and Jacob Moffett.
Among the group, Jackson holds the fastest 10k time of 30:23.0, which he recorded last season at the NCAA West Regionals in Colfax, Washington, where he finished 54th overall as the Gaels' top runner. Moffett and Habash also return to the West Regional competition this season. Their efforts earned Saint Mary's a spot in 14th out of 31 competing teams.
The NCAA West Regionals will be held at Haggin Oaks Golf Complex in Sacramento on Friday, November 14th, with the men's 10k race scheduled for 10 AM PST.
