KANSAS CITY, Mo. - The accolades continued to pour in for the Saint Mary's Women's Soccer program as head coach Theresa Romagnolo and her staff were named United Soccer Coaches West Region Staff of the Year for the first time in program history! Joining Romagnolo with the honor are assistants Emily Kruger, Mariah Cameron and Sophie Elam.
The Gaels' coaching staff helped lead them to 12 wins during the 2025 campaign, their highest win total in over two decades. Saint Mary's finished in second place just a point behind Pepperdine for the WCC title, narrowly missing out on an at-large bid for the NCAA Tournament.
Assistant coach Emily Kruger helped anchor one of the best defenses on the west coast as redshirt sophomore Kate Plachy was named WCC Goalkeeper of the Year, recording a conference leading 12 shutouts. The rest of the staff were also vital to a quick striking offense that featured leading goal scorer Sydney Middaugh who recorded ten goals and was named to the All-WCC First Team. Five other players scored multiple goals on the season, contributing to a +16 goal differential for the Gaels as the 2025 squad will go down as one of the most complete teams in program history.
