ROW | Varsity Eight 1 and 2, Novice Four Take Second at Sac Invite

SACRAMENTO, Calif. — Saint Mary's Rowing's Spring season got underway in the Sac Invite today, with the Gaels taking second in three different races. Both the varsity eight and the second varsity eight finished second behind only host Sacramento State, while the Gaels Novice Four boat also took second behind the Hornets.
The varsity eight boat of coxswain Mavis Read-Kinney, Hathaway Scarpine, Katie Ferbet, Katelyn Robertson, Kendall Brazeel, Maria Moreno Roque, Faith Freligh, Kelly Nelson and Carolyn Huckel finished sub seven minutes in their race at 6:57.5, just four seconds behind the winning Hornet boat.
In the second varsity eight race, coxswain Skye Kirsten, Fiona Samuelson, Natalie Sanchez, Natalie Davis, Nalani Jihad, Chloe Casement, Isabella Macdonald, Ashley Terry and Ava Delucchi guided their boat to a second place finish time of 7:14.0, just seven seconds behind the hosts Hornets.
Rounding out the group of second place finishers for the Gaels was the novice four boat of coxswain Rachel Frye, Fiona Samuelson, Kelly Nelson, Chloe Casement and Nalani Jihad finished at 8:13.7, just ten second behind the Sacramento State winning boat. The Gaels varsity four boat placed third in their race.
The Gaels will be back at it for the Hornet Invite next week, back on Lake Natoma in Sacramento.
