Box Score Highlights

LOS ANGELES — In a battle between two of the four remaining unbeaten WCC side, the LMU Lions handed the Saint Mary's Gaels their first conference loss of the season, 3-0. The Gaels got a massive effort by sophomore Makenzie Jackson, who recorded nine kills without an error on 15 swings, and were competitive in the latter parts of the match, but ultimately suffered just their second sweep loss of the season.

HOW IT HAPPENED
After set one went firmly the way of the Lions, 25-14, the Gaels came to life in the second frame, erasing an early 6-2 deficit to rally back and pull ahead, 19-15. LMU would take a timeout and go on a run of their own, leveling things at 21 apiece. Saint Mary's would lead at 22-21 and 23-22, however, the Lions would close out the frame with three straight points to make it 2-0 early.

A pair of Layne Dent kills would put the Gaels up 4-1 early in the third, but LMU would tie things up with a 3-0 run, one of 10 ties in the third set. An Anaya Thrower kill would give the Gaels their final lead of the match at 14-13, but it was followed by an LMU 5-0 run that would carry them across the finish line, winning the third and final set, 25-20.

GAME NOTES

For just the third time this season, the Gaels hit over 0.200 in a match, hitting 0.233 in this one.
Mackenzie Jackson led that charge, going without an error on 15 swings, converting nine of those for kills.
The 0.600 clip for Jackson was the best of her Saint Mary's career, and the second best in her collegiate career after hitting 0.625 last year for Montana State in a loss to Nevada.
Sadie White also went errorless on nine attempts, turning those into four kills to go along with her 30 assists.
For the fifth straight match, White averaged better than 10 assists per set. In those five matches, White is averaging 41.4 assists per contest.
With her 10 digs tonight, Alayna Pearson eclipsed 600 for her Gael career.

UP NEXT
The Gaels will make the 20 mile trip up Pacific Coast Highway to take on Pepperdine on Saturday. First serve is set for 1 p.m. on October 3 and can be streamed on ESPN+.
