MORAGA, Calif. - The Saint Mary's women's basketball team is back in UCU Pavilion, concluding its first official week of practice ahead of the 2026-27 season. Head coach Jeff Cammon enters his fourth season at the helm and welcomes new staff additions in former players Kennedy Johnson and Hannah Rapp as well as former Santa Clara head coach Michael Floyd. The Gaels will continue their preseason practices before their first exhibition against UC Santa Cruz on October 30. The 2026-27 season will officially kick off on the road against Stanford on November 4, before the Gaels return to UCU Pavilion for their home opener against Chico State on November 10. A new season brings new opportunities, as Cammon welcomes nine newcomers, including seven freshmen, to this year's squad. Lihi Azouri and Niveya Henley
highlight the transfer class for the Gaels, with Azouri coming to Moraga from Southeastern Louisiana where she averaged ten points and led the Lions in three-point shooting as a true freshman (39%). Henley enters the season as a grad transfer from Idaho, where she was a member of the 2026 Big Sky Regular Season and Tournament Championship team for the Vandals. Other notable newcomers include 2026 Arizona Gatorade Player of the Year Audrey Bhesania and international point guards in Nina Klep (Slovenia) and Irene Andreou (Greece). The duo are two of seven international players out of the 15-player squad. The Gaels do return their leading scorer and three-point shooter in Abigail Shoff and Addi Wedin respectively. Shoff averaged a career-high 9.4 points per game a season ago to earn All-WCC Honorable Mention status, while Wedin led the team from beyond the arc, shooting the three ball at a 40% clip over her 32 games played. Saint Mary's has been one of the best defenses in the West Coast Conference since Cammon took over in 2023 and, with some young talent and offensive additions, could make a strong push in this year's Credit Union 1 West Coast Conference Championship in Las Vegas.
