MXC | Saint Mary’s Returns to Bronco Invitational

MORAGA, Calif. — The Saint Mary's men's cross country team is set to compete at the Bronco Invitational on Saturday morning.

The Gaels are coming off of a fifth-place finish out of ten teams at the Bill Dellinger Invitational. Joseph O'Connell led the Gaels across the finish line for the second time this season in just his second race, placing sixth overall in a field of 90 runners with a time of 23:58.8. The performance also marked the second top-ten finish for O'Connell this season. Graduate student Stuart Terrill was next in, crossing the finish line in 24:21.9 to take 16th place. Redshirt senior Damian Frausto was third across the line for the Gaels, as he completed the 8K in 24:53.2 to place 34th overall. Jacob Moffett (25:17.3, 50th) and Dennis Cheruiyot (25:18.1, 51st) finished back-to-back to round out Saint Mary's top five finishers.

The Gaels will feature a mix of experienced and younger runners in the men's 8K Invitational. Seniors Christopher Chavez, Connor McGhee, Moss Michelsen, Diego Urdiales, Spencer Wirshing, juniors Emmanuel Moes, Luis Muradas, Andrew Perez, and Aiden Tarantino, sophomores Luke Davis, Quinn Davis, Jacob Schuetze, Nick Shoemaker, and Zack Springer, and freshmen Noah Barthel, Matteo Byrd, Dylan Mehnert, Joshua Sonoda, and Shane Sparks will all represent Saint Mary's. Of this group, freshman Byrd has recorded the fastest 8K time this season at the USF Invitational, where he crossed the finish line in 26:13.4.

At the 2025 Bronco Invitational, the Gaels finished 16th out of 18 teams. Urdiales finished second for the Gaels in the 8K last season with a time of 25:58.0, which still stands as his personal best time. Schuetze and Perez followed, coming in third and fourth for Saint Mary's, respectively.

The Bronco Invitational will take place at Baylands Regional Park in Sunnyvale with the men's 8K College Invitational beginning at 8:45 a.m.
